Horizons Math is designed to help your children understand math from the ground up. Using a spiral learning technique, children are first introduced to a concept and then asked to solve related and increasingly difficult problems over the course of several days or weeks. The concept then re-emerges in later exercises for a new concept. This is Horizons Math Book 1, which is the first of two student books used in this 2nd grade curriculum (the other is not included and is sold-separately). The eighty lessons in this book cover counting, number words, number sequences, telling time, subtraction, addition, larger/less than, number patterns, number sentences, word problems and more/5(20).

My 8yo daughter has been using Horizons Math since Kindergarten and I LOVE this program More colorful than Saxon and much easier to understand My daughter did the K and 1st grade books in one year I like the review in each lesson as well as the new concept covered Not too lengthy as to frustrate a child but only a few problems per section One 4/5. Horizons math has lots of color in the problems and lots of pictures to accompany the text. She likes that there are new topics frequently. Each lesson is broken down into short chunks, so students get a lot of review and a gentle push forward.

Horizons Math is the strongest math curriculum we have used. See the scope and sequence, starting on page 5. Timberdoodle has a sample of each level. I suggest using the placement test before jumping in to buy a level. ~Written by Sam of Sam’s Noggin. Horizons is a brightly illustrated, engaging workbook curriculum filled with consumable lessons and hands-on activities. Designed with fast-paced lessons, Horizons uses a spiral learning method to help your student master concepts through the process of introduction, review, and reinforcement.
